It is very easy to let patriotism get in the way of our commitment to Christ as Christians, but our ultimate allegiance is first to Christ and then country. Love for Jesus should over shadow any political stance we may have! After all we have a country we are looking forward to where he rules as supreme.
Hebrews 11:10 For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.
Some modern skeptics and critics of The idea of Christ being God incarnate often say, “Jesus never claimed to be God, he only said he was God’s son.”
But to the contrary, that is not what I see going on here. Jesus claimed he was one with God, if you ask me that is a pretty bold statement. The tenth chapter of John continues on this way:
The Jews of his day knew exactly what Jesus was claiming, otherwise they wouldn’t have picked up stones to kill him. To make the absurd claim that Jesus never claimed deity in scripture is to deny what happened here, and if the Jews of his time knew beyond a shadow of a doubt who Jesus was claiming he was.
Many ask, “How can a loving God send people to Hell?” but my question is, If God were as mean and vindictive as they make him out to be than why has he not sent us all to hell already. He is under no obligation to give any of us another second to live and could easily without any need to explain his decision send anyone to Hell at any moment. He is not mean, angry or unjust though, He is patient and wanting to give everyone the same opportunity to turn from their rebellion and embrace His love through Jesus Christ.
(2 Peter 3:9) NIV The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
(Ezekiel 18:32) For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign LORD. Repent and live!
(John 3:17) For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
God has no desire to send anyone to Hell, but he won’t stop people who want to reject His free offer and plan of salvation found in Jesus Christ.
Malachi 1:7-8 “By offering defiled food on my altar.“But you ask, ‘How have we defiled you?’“By saying that the Lord’s table is contemptible. When you offer blind animals for sacrifice, is that not wrong? When you sacrifice lame or diseased animals, is that not wrong? Try offering them to your governor! Would he be pleased with you? Would he accept you?” says the Lord Almighty.
Imagine if a man went out to eat with some of his guy friends and they ate the best ribs and when he came home he gave the box of bones with hardly any meat on them to his wife! Would she be happy? I highly doubt it. But how often do we do that to God Himself by setting aside the best and first parts of our money, time, and resources. Is God really wanting our money or time as much as he desires us? The woman who got the box of scraps could have probably cared less about the ribs but none the less she was insulted and probably thought “you think that is all I am worth? Your left overs?” We send the same message to the Lord when we neglect him.
Let us be intentional to give God what he truly is worthy of!
