Now in David’s story, he was dealing with a literal mortal enemy, namely, the Amalekites. Yet as believers, we have been warned to be “Sober and alert” because the great enemy is targeting us:
–Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. (1 Peter 5:6-9 -)
“David strengthened himself in the Lord” it says, and he was “Casting all his cares upon the Lord”
He was in a bad spot, the men’s families were captured by the enemies of God’s people so David and his men were distraught. To make matters worse his own men wanted to kill him in their anger. So David does the only thing he can, the first thing any of us should in a tight place, “Strengthen ourselves in the Lord” and “Cast all your anxieties on him for he cares for you.”
Not only does he find “Strength in the Lord” but also God shows him what to do. He first finds power in the Lord to do what God has called him to do! So he is both strengthened and led to pursue the enemy and retake what was stolen!
So too with us, our strength to overcome temptation and truimph in troubles requires the greatest resource, God!
We must seek him to truimph!
