Acts 15:19-21 “It is my judgment, therefore, that we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God. Instead we should write to them, telling them to abstain from food polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood. For the law of Moses has been preached in every city from the earliest times and is read in the synagogues on every Sabbath.”
Wow! Loaded isn’t it? The early Apostles layed out very basic simple instructions for those who were trying to turn to Christ. See if the Jewish converts to Christ were allowed to lay on the Gentile Christians all sorts of Jewish laws then that may cause some to turn back. Yet in wisdom by the Holy Spirit the Apostles gave just a few simple directives!
I suppose some Christians may try inadvertently to do the same things through fence laws, example “Thou shall not listen to heavy metal” or “Thou shall not ever have a glass of anything alcoholic” or “Thou shall not watch any R rated movies” How bout this one, “Thou shall not kiss or hold hands with thy girlfriend”
Well these things can lead to sin I am sure but in and of themselves the Bible does not condemn them. Yet if a person’s conscience forbids them to do these they should not yet at the same time not create a yoke of legalism on other believers or young Christ followers.
Whatever the case: 1 Corinthians 10:32 Do not cause anyone to stumble, whether Jews, Greeks or the church of God—
We are 1.) Not to cause ANYONE to stumble
2.) Not to cause “Jews” to stumble- Religious of Pauls day
3.) Nor cause Greeks to stumbe: The unchurched of Pauls day.
4.) Not cause the “Church of God” to stumble- believers
Basically do not tempt anyone to sin or trip anyone up from coming to Jesus!
