There is not a huge difference between a Christian and those who do not know Christ as Lord and Savior except this: both are like bouncy balls, one has the ability to glow in the dark, the other does not. And when in faith a person lays hold of Christ and is in dwelt with His Spirit he becomes like the glow in the dark ball. The chemicals in the one ball that glows is like the Holy Spirit, when a Christian is exposed to God's Word and enters God's presence through prayer he begins to glow. The Word of God is exposed to the Spirit of God and creates a reaction of light in the man or woman's soul.
Yet when someone without the Spirit in them hears the Word of God little happens, unless the Lord is in the process of working in them to draw them to Himself.
Before I knew Christ it was the same, a book full of words and chapters, nice principles and great promises when I wanted to get something out of God, yet when I became alive in Christ The light of God's word became my food, it is indeed the photosynthesis of my soul that I need for life and godliness and all satisfying experience in my soul!
We absorb God's truth, and His Spirit retains this life giving word in us like humidity traps moisture, and like CO2 traps heat!
Many Christians will fail to be all the light they could be for Christ not because they cannot, but because they will not, they will not set aside time to dwell in the light like a green shrub does with the sun. For is there a day where the plant will take a vacation from his abiding in his allotted sunlight? Can this plant for one week go on vacation to the dark caves or shadowy caverns without growing weak and sickly and then just die?
A tree, a shrub, and a vibrant flower stays where he is- for who has ever seen a flower move two and fro? Does a plant move like a man, animal or insect? No, plants stay right where they are planted and always stay in the sunlight! So to a Christian must plant himself deep in the soil of God's Word and absorb the goodness and love of God's countenance always. This is his life!
John 8:12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
