2 Timothy 2:23-25 says “Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. Opponents must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth,
This for me is probably one of the more difficult passages to practice, whether it comes to family or political/religious discussions on Facebook with non believers. It dawned on me yesterday that perhaps Christians as well as myself try possibly a different approach when it comes to standing for truth in an ungodly society that loves sinful things. Don’t get me wrong, Im totally against many of the moral evils that permeate our society and I do not support the recent supreme court’s ruling on gay marriage, but perhaps the Church is expecting the world to conform to values it will never accept, since it is the World, and the World and the unregenerate man will never submit to God’s standards unless a conversion of the heart takes place first.
Romans 8:7-8 The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.
“It does not” and “can not” so no amount of human persuasion, reasoning nor debate can convince a lost unredeemed soul to conform and subscribe to spiritual principles. But the hope we have is Christ, the Holy Spirit, and the love of God! These are the most powerful weapons a Christian has against those imprisoned in Satan’s lies. Pray for these people, continue to love these people, even if they hurl abusive words on you for what you stand for! In the end if they see that you react in kindness instead of hostility then that is more powerful than any debate or lengthy discourse.
