A God who is worth our best

Malachi 1:7-8 “By offering defiled food on my altar.“But you ask, ‘How have we defiled you?’“By saying that the Lord’s table is contemptible. When you offer blind animals for sacrifice, is that not wrong? When you sacrifice lame or diseased animals, is that not wrong? Try offering them to your governor! Would he be pleased with you? Would he accept you?” says the Lord Almighty.

Imagine if a man went out to eat with some of his guy friends and they ate the best ribs and when he came home he gave the box of bones with hardly any meat on them to his wife! Would she be happy? I highly doubt it. But how often do we do that to God Himself by setting aside the best and first parts of our money, time, and resources. Is God really wanting our money or time as much as he desires us? The woman who got the box of scraps could have probably cared less about the ribs but none the less she was insulted and probably thought “you think that is all I am worth? Your left overs?” We send the same message to the Lord when we neglect him.

Let us be intentional to give God what he truly is worthy of!

A Lesson From Sales

Not that Im an expert in sales but the key to successful business is in the consumers not just the product itself. It can be the greatest product but trying to sell it to a group of individuals who do not want it or have no use of it is vain. When I sold Cutco I had to follow criteria of who I displayed their product to and even though it was a fantastic product, if I did not aim for the ideal target group no sales would be made. The same goes for real-estate sales. You have better luck making a sale to a couple with 3 children than a 30 year old man living in his mother’s basement. The lesson I think behind this is that witnessing is very similar to sales in a way because you can not just go and expect someone to respond or accept the gospel who thinks they are good as is and fine without. God gives us all opportunities daily if we keep our eyes open. He brings people across our paths and into our lives for a reason. We do not have to just go out out and do “cold sales” or “door knocking” so to speak, not that God disapproves of us sharing this way but often it is more effective to seize opportunities that spring up on their own.

Colossians 4:5-6 Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

Christ’s Lampstand in Ephesus

Often times we can get so busy doing the Lord’s work we neglect the Lord in the process. In Revelation the Church of Ephesus had things they were doing well such as laboring hard for Jesus and disdaining the lifestyles and teachings of those who promoted sin by means of “grace” however they missed Christ in the midst of works, working hard but abandoning the Love of God in the process.

Revelation 2:4-7 Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place. But you have this in your favor: You hate the practices of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate. Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.

Christ said he would remove their “lampstand” which I suppose could mean their position of influence or effectiveness. In reality this will happen to us all when we do not abide in the vine! We cease being effective as a light to a dark world!

Feel weighed down by life and people?

Here are a few things I have learned over the past year. Life can be difficult and people can be cruel but one does not have to succumb. All my life I have been handicapped and suffered stereo types but Jesus is truly a friend that loves me as I am and has plans for my life. I remember this and it keeps me going.

Rule 1) Identify Your Emotional Baggage.

Have you ever suffered from or are currently suffering from a bad case of DMD or Discrimination Mentality Disorder another word for it is a “chip on the shoulder” I suffer from it from time to time and the main symptom is paranoia and suspicion. No its not a mental illness but one who suffers from this will often times subconsciously be looking or expecting to be profiled, slighted, offended, or discriminated against in some way causing a hightened self protectiveness and the individual will be on the defense alot.

Now Im no Psychologist and the word is coined by me. But I believe Its more of a matter of a wounded heart really and not just a disturbed mind! Often times its a deep instilled fear of continuing to be hurt by people. The paranoia in the present might not be accurate and although false perceptions are made the underlying cause or emotion that causes the delusions them self can be valid. I mean this: there are things in all of our past histories that cause us to believe and perceive certain things about present reality, whether positive or negative the past can if allowed mold how we think today.

The good news for us who have had past rejections, hurts, disappointments, and failures. We know that as believers in Jesus Christ there is hope and future ahead!

Jeremiah 29:11-13 For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

God can and will take past garbage and present trash we are hauling around such as the insecurities, weaknesses, and even failures, and he can Recycle them into something beautiful. Recycling in the trash world is taking the garbage and some how melting it down and reusing it and making it into a new product! When we go through the heat of life it is melting the junk into glory!!!!!

Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

If you don’t know Jesus you can, and he is able to take any old mess you may be in and make you new! If you do know Jesus than as the Psalms say “His mercies are new every morning”

2 Corinthians 5:17-19 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: the old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.

Matthew 11:28-30 ‘Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.’

Rule 2) Let Jesus Heal Your Heart.

Jesus is the only solution to the wounded heart, the deepest injuries inside of us. He is willing to heal all those who ask him as we see in

Matthew 8:1-3 When Jesus came down from the mountainside, large crowds followed him. A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, ‘Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.’ Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. ‘I am willing,’ he said. ‘Be clean!’ Immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy.

God desires to heal his chosen people and all for that matter who reach out to him. Now God will not always perform a physical healing but He has an even greater miracle for every one who is believer or who will reach out to Him and kneel before him and acknowledge all their wounds and baggage, I am convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt God wants us to be whole in our emotional and spiritual life. True healing is indeed inside out, true healing starts on of a person.

Indeed if we all were truly aware of how much God loves us and desires the best for us regardless of our past sins, present feelings of inadequacy, current trials and disappointments then we would not be bothered nearly as much by the physical problems, social rejections or the poor circumstances we ought endure.

The earliest martyrs who died for Christ endured well because the were consumed by Christ. They experienced the love of Christ that “is better than life” (Psalm 63:3) Peter was crucified for his faith in Christ and refused even the dignity of being crucified upright like Jesus was so instead he requested to be hung upside down because He was even unworthy to die upright as His Lord did.

The Apostle John was exiled to the Island of Patmos after his execution was unsuccessful and it was there he wrote Revelations.

In their early years with Jesus these were just ordinary men whom Jesus called. They had problems just like everybody else but the Lord used them to do the unimaginable and incredible. Throughout their lives the Lord changed impulsive, unstable, self righteous, and just an all around around wild bunch of men into Servants of the Living God and Ambassadors of the Gospel!

This did not happen over night, and we don’t always receive instantaneous healing in our hearts or minds either but if we by faith keep pursuing God through Christ we will “Be transformed by the renewing of our mind” (Romans 12)

Rule 3)Never Play The Victim.

We as believers in Christ need to drop the Victim Mentalities we all have from time to time, especially myself included. I often times make myself more disabled than I am by thinking the wrong way and having a bad attitude.

Philippians 4:13 says “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”

We cant view ourselves through worldly eyes or allow the world to define us with labels. I may be disabled but that is a description not my identity. One might be known for the color of their skin or the shoes they wear or whatever it is but these are nothing but externals, and The word of God says “we are children of God” because of Jesus Christ.

Yes life is full of set backs, stereo types, challenges, and cruel people from time to time but none of us have to be victims- but we are all called to be Victors!

True love!

If you want to find a godly match pursue the center of God’s will cause the other person will be doing the same!

Marriage is not for everyone but if you seek God’s will you wont miss out on his best no matter who you are!

Matthew 6:31-33 So do not worry, saying, “What shall we eat?” or “What shall we drink?” or “What shall we wear?” For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Pursuit of Pleasure

noun : the belief that pleasure or happiness is the most important goal in life

This is the pursuit of every human heart is it not? Yet many seek such fulfillment in things that will not truly satisfy the deepest longings of their souls. We see broken relationships, failed marriages, people striving for more financial success, greater beauty, nicer houses, and list never ends. Are you seeking real purpose and true love that seems to fail to really satisfy you?

Jesus said in (John 6:27) Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.’

In Christ Jesus you can have a fresh start to life and be forgiven of all the sins you have ever committed against God and others, If you are willing to trust him as your savior and Lord he will fill your heart with forgiveness and purpose that do not depend on circumstances or your own perfection.

Contrary to popular belief he desires to give you a full life not a miserable one. It may not be easy but it is worth it and you wont have to go it alone or without His help.
